3rd May 2011 Falls Creek

We had a glorious day today......

The day started off nice and warm and John couldn't help himself he wanted to potter in the garden...

But we decided it was such a nice day we would go for a drive to Falls Creek, we set off with short sleeve tops on and the top down on the car...was a lovely drive but as we got higher the temperature started to drop...

Nestled between Mount Beauty and Falls Creek, Bogong Village is hidden in a peaceful valley surrounded by magnificent gardens and beautiful trees

Situated on the edge of Lake Guy, Bogong Village is a summer favourite holiday destination for canoeing, fishing and swimming, bushwalking, tennis and horseriding.  I was blown away with the reflection of the trees overlooking Lake Guy and the East Kiewa River.

In winter the village is popular with skiers and snowboarders, offering affordable accommodation close to all the action at Falls Creek.

Once the main village for the hydro electricity workers of the 1940s, it is now used as a base for the brand new Bogong Power Station, which was completed in 2009.

We had a nice stroll around looking at all the wonderful trees etc, and checking out the East Kiewa River...

We set off further up the mountain another 16 kls to Falls Creek, I was watching the temp gauge go down the higher we went .. to it finally reaching 4 degrees....up went the roof of the car and on went the heater hahahah

Its magic on the top of the mountain and I can imagine it being spectacular once it snows ... ohhh I so hope it snows before we leave...

Once again like all the mountains around here it has a range of dead trees....every where but they make a great photo...

Rocky Valley is the main storage dam of the hydro-electric scheme, 265 ha. Located above the snow line in high plain
snow grass country, which  freezes over in a severe winter.
but virtually closed in winter when vehicles can only travel as
far as Falls Creek ski village.
We went for a drive over it....

We finished off having lunch in the Alta Restaurant before heading back home....
